Resumo:
Aim: To evaluate the frequency and distribution of odontogenic cysts and tumors in a Brazilian population. Study Design: A retrospective study analyzed clinical records from a Stomatology service over 31 years. Patients with histopathological diagnosis of odontogenic cysts and tumors according to the WHO classification of 2017 were included. Clinical and demographic data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square test in SPSS. Results: Out of 7000 records analyzed, 533 were included, comprising 478 (89.7%) odontogenic cysts and 55 (10.3%) odontogenic tumors. The most frequent cysts were periapical (n=260, 54,4%), dentigerous (n=94, 19,7%) and keratocyst (n=64, 13,4%); while tumors were odontoma (n=23, 41,8%), ameloblastoma (n=21, 38,2%), and odontogenic myxoma (n=8, 14,5%). Women were predominantly affected, typically in their second and third decades of life, and primarily located in the mandible for both odontogenic cysts and tumors. The most common radiographic findings were impacted teeth (cysts: n=30, 25.2%; tumors: n=12, 36.4%) and tooth displacement (cysts: n=12; 10.1%), with the majority showing radiolucent characteristics (cysts: n=285, 91.3%; tumors: n=21, 44.7%). Conclusion: This study revealed the predominance of specific types of odontogenic cysts and tumors in a Brazilian population, contributing to a better understanding of the epidemiology of these lesions.
