Nome do Apresentador: Carla Bento Nelem COLTURATO

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the failure rate in the completing medical records of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), seeking to identify potential compromises in epidemiological research and the implementation of public health policies.
Study Design: This was a retrospective analysis of medical records of patients diagnosed with OSCC between 2016 and 2020. Demographic and clinical data were collected, excluding records of non-squamous or non-oral neoplasms and those with incomplete clinical data.
Results: Out of the 234 medical records registered for oral malignant neoplasm treatment, only 14 (6%) were complete and suitable for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) analysis. The main reasons for excluding the medical records were: 142 (60.7%) not found; 82 (35%) with lesions located outside the oral cavity (oropharynx); 8 (3.4%) without anatomical location specified; 2 (0.9%) without histopathological diagnosis.
Conclusion: The high rate of unsatisfactory completion of medical records reveals a critical gap that may affect the accuracy of epidemiological studies and the effectiveness of public policies aimed at the prevention and treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The implementation of strategies to improve the quality of medical records is imperative.
