Título: IDENTIFICATION OF MAST CELLS AND EOSINOPHILS IN BIOPSY OF ADVERSE REACTIONS TO AESTHETIC MATERIALS

Nome do Apresentador: Yohana Cordeiro de Miranda MAGNO

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: To identify the presence of mast cells and eosinophils in biopsy samples of adverse reactions to the injection of aesthetic materials in the oral and perioral region. Study design: The tissue samples were obtained from five Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology laboratories and were subjected to Toluidine Blue staining (mast cells) and Sirius Red (eosinophils). The number of mast cells and eosinophils was counted in ten fields of high magnification in an optical microscope. The average of positive cells in each case was obtained. Ethics: 10723019.0.1001.5149. Results: Fourteen cases were studied, comprising six different aesthetic materials (poly-L-lactic acid, hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite, polyacrylamide gel, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and silicone). Mast cells were found in all cases except in the samples of hyaluronic acid and polyacrylamide gel. Silicone had the highest number of mast cells (41), followed by PMMA (24). Eosinophils were found in at least one sample of each type of material. Calcium hydroxyapatite (9) and PMMA (8) were the materials with the highest number of eosinophils. Conclusion: Mast cells and eosinophils are found in adverse reactions to diverse types of filling materials, and their role in the allergic response to these materials should be considered. Support: CAPES, CNPq, PRPq-UFMG.
