Título: GENDER INEQUALITIES IN ORAL MEDICINE AND PATHOLOGY RESEARCH: TEMPORAL TRENDS OF TWO DECADES

Nome do Apresentador: Alini Cardoso SOARES

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: To evaluate gender inequities in the authorship of articles published in the field of Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology and to analyze temporal trends.

Study Design: An observational retrospective time-series study was carried out using data from 2000 to 2022.

Results: A total of 6,595 studies were included in the first authorship analysis, and 6,627 in the last authorship. Only 39.2% (CI95% 38.0-40.3) of the first authors and 24.1% (CI95% 23.1-25.1) last authors were females. Females consistently faced underrepresentation throughout the 23-year evaluation, mainly for the last authorship. The only region where the first author's female is not a minority in Latin America, with a representation of 63.0%. Having female research as the last author increased the prevalence of females in the first author position by 42% (PR=1.42,CI95%[1.30-1.54]).

Conclusion: Although a slight decrease in underrepresentation was noted over the period, after 2020, the gender gap tended to widen for both first and last authors. It is crucial to implement measures aimed at attracting, retaining, and advancing women in the field of science, while also actively monitoring and ensuring advancements toward achieving gender equity.
