Resumo: Objective: To assess the titer of TTV in the saliva of children with malignant neoplasms undergoing chemotherapy compared to a healthy control group. Methods: Saliva samples were collected from 65 children and adolescents aged between 0 and 17 years, with 39 undergoing chemotherapy for malignant neoplasms (study group - SG) and 26 normoreactive children and adolescents (control group - CG). Results: TTV was present in over 80% of saliva samples from both the SG and CG. The mean titer was 5.4±2.9 log10 copies/mL in the SG and 5.2±2.3 log10 copies/mL in the CG. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups regarding the presence (p= 0.7275) or titer (p=0.6726) of TTV in saliva. Positivity and viral load were higher in the age group of 3 to 11 years in both groups (40/65) (p=0.0342). No relationship was found between the level of leukocytes and TTV titer in the SG (p=0.2251), nor between the type of neoplasm and titer (p>0.05). Conclusion: TTV was widely detected in the saliva of the studied population, from both groups, confirming the possibility of using this fluid as an alternative means of measurement.
