Resumo: Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of oral health on the quality of life of cirrhotic patients on the transplant waiting list by using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) questionnaire. Study Design: In a cross-sectional study, 268 patients divided into SG (with cirrhosis) and CG (without cirrhosis) were evaluated. SG were further divided into those with and without the need for tooth extraction. The OHIP-14 have answers based on the Likert scale. The answers were evaluated according to eight established dimensions and complications of cirrhosis, and the three groups were compared. Results: The results were presented in frequencies (for the 14 answers) and the impact of the dimensions was evaluated by using the Kruskall-Wallis's test and Bonferroni's post-test. All the dimensions (with the exception of physical pain) had a greater impact on both cirrhosis groups compared to controls (p<0.001). Mann-Whitney's test was used to verify any association between the dimensions and study variables. Ascites were associated with physical pain (p=0.036) and psychological discomfort (p=0.02), whereas decompensated cirrhosis was associated with psychological discomfort only (p=0.023). Conclusions: It was concluded that oral health impacts the quality of life of patients with cirrhosis.Funding agency: FAPESP
