Resumo: Plasma cells containing Russell bodies (RBs), or Mott cells, can be observed when assessing non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions. Relevantly, light-chain-restriction on immunohistochemistry is an important criterion to distinguish them. In the oral cavity, several chronic inflammatory lesions present not uncommonly plasma cell infiltration admixed with RBs; however, few cases previously reported highlight prominent and extensive presence of RBs. An 80-year-old woman was referred presenting a large ulcerative lesion on the dorsal surface of the tongue several months ago. After biopsy, a Mott cell-rich lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate was observed. By immunohistochemistry, light-chain-restricted Mott cells were evident. After literature review, RB gastritis/duodenitis containing monotypic immunoglobulin light-chain-restricted populations have been reported, with the current case expanding their clinicopathological spectrum.
