Resumo: Studies show that about 10% of pediatric patients present oral lesions and between 0.25% and 15% of all childhood malignancies are located in the head and neck region. Childhood cancer is the second leading cause of death in children over five years of age, surpassed only by trauma or accidents. Among these lesions, of importance to the dental surgeon, odontogenic cysts and tumors should be also considered. The present study aimed to describe the prevalence and distribution of oral and maxillofacial lesions in pediatric patients in a tertiary reference center in Brazil over a 10-year period (2007 to 2017). After evaluating5.042 cases; 96 cases corresponded to odontogenic cysts and tumors, with dentigerous cyst, odontogenic keratocyst, odontoma and ameloblastoma being most prevalent; and 1.007 cases were neoplasms/benign proliferations, with follicular lymphoid hyperplasia, melanocytic nevus, and hemangioma, as well as leukemia/lymphoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, and retinoblastoma, being most frequent. These findings provide important epidemiological information to contribute to oral and maxillofacial health and prognosis strategies in pediatric populations.
