Título: PREVALENCE OF ORAL MANIFESTATIONS IN PATIENTS LIVING WITH HIV (PLHIV) IN REMOTE AREA REFERENCE CENTER

Resumo: OBJECTIVE: Assess the prevalence of oral manifestations in PLHIV, contrasting with viral load, adherence to treatment and socioeconomic characterization of patients treated in a reference center located in a remote region of the Amazon. STUDY DESIGN: Clinical intraoral examinations were performed as well as biopsies, when needed. Data was collected on diagnosis, adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART), last viral load and T-CD4+ counts. RESULTS: Among 48 patients, 60.42% of them were in D-E social stratum, with average of 9.42 years of schooling. There was excellent treatment adherence, with 77.09% being undetectable. Regarding oral manifestations, they were present mostly among recently diagnosed or abandoned treatment. 20,83% had pseudomembranous candidiasis and 10,42% oral hairy leukoplakia. Undetectable patients had nonspecific manifestations and/or manifestations associated with low-intensity chronic inflammation that HIV induces. 14,59% presented hyperemic oropharynx, 29,17% oral post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, 2,08% focal epithelial hyperplasia and 6,25% morsicatio buccarum/labiorum, which may be related to psychological burden experienced by PLHIV. CONCLUSION: Most patients experience low income and schooling. There is a change in the dynamics on oral manifestations' onset, where patients are achieving control of the infection, and manifestations classically associated with HIV are restricted to patients who are not undergoing treatment or have abandoned it.
