Resumo: A 31-year-old woman, who had classic Hodgkin's lymphoma, was submitted to autologous transplantation. In day + 3, she presented multiple gingival ulcerated and necrotic lesions. Fungal and viral (herpes) infection was suspected. Cytology showed reactive squamous cells permeated by bacterial colonies without signs of viral infection. Moreover, peripheral blood culture was performed and the result shows colonization by the anaerobic microorganism which was identified as Capnocytophaga sputigena. The patient was submitted to antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) to decontaminate the affected mucosa, in addition to oral systemic antibiotic therapy with amoxicillin and clavulanic acid for 7 days. The patient obtained a bone marrow graft on the ninth day after the transplant and showed improvement thirteen days of the onset of symptoms. Capnocytophaga sputigena are present in oral cavity of humans, dogs and cats, as part of their normal oral flora and it infeccion can occur in autologous transplantation neutropenic patients.
