Resumo: 29-year-old female presented at a private practice, complaining of burning mouth, gingival swelling, and halitosis. Severe gingivitis was observed during the first appointment. She reported a history of a 2-day fever and neck soreness, as well as a past medical history of HIV, which was diagnosed in 2016 and treated with Zidovudine and Lamivudine. The patient was referred to a specialized odontological service, where they were diagnosed with severe gingival swelling, desquamative gingivitis, multiple gingiva deformation, and putrefying halitosis. Swabs were taken from the gingival lesions and tested positive for MX DNA, with both amplification and probe tests. It is important to note that no solitary lesions were observed, and the desquamating gingivitis was the only symptom observed. The patient was referred to an Infectious Disease Service, and, subsequently, reported the development of multiple lesions on their legs and genital area. They were prescribed antivirals and are currently on follow-up.
