Título: ORAL MICROBIOME SEQUENCING TEST IN A CLINICAL CASE OF ACUTE MYELOID LEUKEMIA WITH PERSISTENT ORAL INFECTION

Resumo: A 45-year-old female patient, previously healthy with recurrence of acute myeloid leukemia, was hospitalized for oncological treatment. During hospitalization, presented episodes of febrile neutropenia associated with pharyngotonsillitis and thrombocytopenia. On oral clinical examination, erythematous and swollen gums with active bleeding was observed. Thus, mechanical and chemical local control of the oral microbiota and systemic antibiotic therapy were instituted. Three conclusive cultures of gingival secretion were performed and was conclusive for normal oropharyngeal microbiota, however, the infection panorama stills persistent. An oral microbiome DNA from saliva test was performed, resulting in 167027 sequences harboring 34 types of bacteria. Among the microorganisms identified, Granulicatella adiacens and Veillonella parvula were found in greater quantity, which could be responsible for oral homeostasis instability. Two days after the oral microbiome test result, the patient died.
