Resumo: Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma affects over 350,00 patients annually, and the determination of immune markers capable of predicting survival would bring new and more important aspects to patient care and management. Objective: To characterize the immune cells in the tumor microenvironment of Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma (TSCC) and to evaluate its prognostic significance. Study design: forty-eight cases of TSCC were selected. Immunohistochemical reactions were carried out against CD3, CD4, CD8, CD20, CD68, CD1a, CD83, PD-1, and PD-L1, the analysis was performed to investigate the relation between the type of immune cells and clinical characteristics, such as tumor size, presence of local and distant metastasis and overall survival. Results: Analysis revealed high expression CD3, CD8, CD20, and CD83 were statistically significantly associated with an improvement in overall survival rate. Conclusion: Evidence to support the values higher of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and mature dendritic cells (DC) correlated with improvement in overall survival in tongue squamous cell carcinoma, influenced by characteristics and behaviors of tumor and prognosis.
