Título: Removal of complex odontoma using the sagittal split osteotomy technique. Case report

Resumo: The sagittal split osteotomy (SSO) can be used as excellent technique to access bone cysts and tumors located in the posterior region of the mandible. A 20-year-old man with an asymptomatic swelling in right posterior the mandible that was identified by the orthodontist in routine exams. In the panoramic radiography, a well-defined radiopaque image was observed in the right of the mandibular angle associated with the impacted lower third molar. The patient was taken to operating room under general anesthesia and the tumor was removed using an intraoral access in an external oblique line and the SSO technique modified by Hunsuck/Dal-pont was performed. Stable internal fixation was performed with two 2.0 mm mini plates. The histological examination showing fragments of dentin, cementum and dental pulp distributed in a disorderly manner, confirming the diagnosis of complex odontoma tumor. No complications were reported in the follow-up period after 12 months.
