Resumo: Plasma cell gingivitis is a rare benign condition characterized by inflammatory infiltration of plasma cells, secondary to a hypersensitivity reaction to allergens found in oral hygiene products. The objective of this study is to present the case of a 48-year-old female, who presented with intense gingival discomfort for 6 months, with onset of symptoms after using a new toothpaste. Clinical examination revealed generalized gingival erythema and edema. An incisional biopsy was performed which, on direct immunofluorescence, revealed connective tissue densely permeated by interstitial lymphoplasmohistiocytic inflammatory cells. A condition that must be distinguished from other autoimmune diseases. The diagnosis of plasma cell gingivitis was concluded with a detailed history, differential diagnoses and histopathology. Elimination of the etiologic factor, namely the toothpaste, and with topical corticosteroids improved the lesions and symptoms.
