Resumo: Oral candidiasis is a common fungal infection in cancer patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Poor oral hygiene and immunosuppression can lead to this condition. A 77yo male patient was admitted to the ICU after craniotomy for resection of a high grade glioma was submitted to dental physical examination revealing the presence of white scraped off plaques on buccal mucosa, floor and dorsum of the tongue and superior alveolar ridge. After scraping, he presented an erythematous bed. The clinical diagnosis was oral candidiasis, being confirmed by the cytopathological examination showed hyphae of Candida sp. The treatment was nystatin 100,000 IU/ml 6ml each 8 hours. However, the patient had oscillations in the level of consciousness changing to fluconazole 150 mg once a day. With the diagnosis of the dental team and the adequacy of the treatment instituted, clinical improvement of the infection was obtained in five days.
