Título: SECONDARY RADIATION CARIES RELATED TO XEROSTOMIA: A CASE REPORT ABOUT THE IMPACT OF FOLLOW-UP LOSS

Resumo: This report case is about a 48-year-old man with advanced radiation caries caused by the loss of follow-up, treated in 2018 surgically for multiples Squamous and Basal cell carcinomas of the skin and with radiotherapy (IMRT) for a squamous cell carcinoma on left parotid skin. Although he was submitted to oral preventive treatments to avoid acute and chronic consequences of radiation, he abandoned the accompaniment in the same year, returning in March 2022 with dental pain related to advanced radiation caries. At the physical and radiographic examination, was noticed a severe destruction of the upper teeth and less, but not little, of the lower teeth. The doses higher than 40Gy didn't reach the maxila, which means the radiation caries was secondary to xerostomia. The patient is currently receiving surgical and restoration treatments. This case induces a reflexion about the importance of follow-up in post radiation patients.
