Área Temática: Oncologia

Resumo: Objective: To examine whether sense of coherence (SOC) influences the association between social capital (SC) and quality of life (QoL) among head and neck cancer survivors.
Study design: Cross-sectional study with 105 survivors. QoL was assessed using the UW-QoL (overall, physical, and socioemotional domains), SOC using the SOC-13, and SC using proxy indicators. SOC and SC were categorized as low or high. Moderation was analyzed using Poisson regression adjusted for sociodemographic and clinical variables, including interaction terms.
Results: Low SC and SOC were observed in 38.1% and 54.4% of participants. Among those with low SC, higher SOC was associated with better overall (RR=1.11; 95%CI: 1.01-1.22) and socioemotional QoL (RR=1.17; 95%CI: 1.06-1.28). High SC combined with high SOC was associated with higher overall (RR=1.20; 95%CI: 1.11-1.32), physical (RR=1.24; 95%CI: 1.13-1.36), and socioemotional QoL (RR=1.18; 95%CI: 1.09-1.26). No association was observed for high SC combined with low SOC. Predictive margin analyses showed that, among individuals with low SC, higher SOC was associated with better overall and socioemotional QoL.
Conclusion: SOC influenced the association between SC and QoL. Higher SOC was related to better QoL even under low SC conditions, highlighting its potential role in reducing psychosocial vulnerability.
