Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the effects of ozone therapy on peri-implant repair in rats treated with zoledronic acid (ZA). Study design: Sixty-four male Wistar rats were used, divided into four groups (n=16). All animals received six intravenous injections of ZA (0.035 mg/kg) at 15-day intervals. The animals underwent implant placement immediately after extraction of the first right mandibular molar, followed by the following therapies: ZOL - ZA treatment only; GG - gaseous ozone (60 µg/mL); GO - ozonized oil (0.1 mL); and GGO - gaseous ozone and ozonized oil. Ozone therapies were applied to the peri-implant mucosa every four days for four weeks. The animals were euthanized 28 days postoperatively for clinical, biomechanical, microtomographic, histological, and implant surface topographic analyses. Results: Groups GG and GGO showed lower severity in clinical staging (p<0.05). GG revealed a higher mean removal torque. Higher concentrations of calcium and phosphorus were detected in the GO and GG groups. All ozone-treated groups showed a higher percentage of total bone area, bone neoformation, epithelial coverage, vital bone area, and greater bone volume, although bone-to-implant contact was similar among groups. Conclusion: Local ozone therapy positively modulated peri-implant healing in an experimental model of osteonecrosis.
