Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) in the immediate postoperative period after maxillomandibular reconstruction with microsurgery and its impact on patients' quality of life.
Methods: This prospective interventional study included 16 patients randomized using stratified sampling. Eligible patients had a history of oral cancer and underwent maxillomandibular reconstruction with microsurgical free flaps. They were stratified by age and assigned to two groups: an experimental group receiving aPDT and a control group receiving standard care.
Results: Preliminary results showed that aPDT improved quality of life, particularly in functional aspects, compared with the control group. No adverse effects were reported.
Conclusion: aPDT was associated with improved quality of life in the immediate postoperative period after maxillomandibular reconstruction, particularly in functional aspects. Further studies with larger samples are needed to confirm these findings.
