Título: Human Papillomavirus-Related Head and Neck Cancer in Latin America and the Caribbean: A Scoping Review

Resumo: Methods: This scoping review followed the JBI methodology and the PRISMAScR framework. Eligibility was defined using the PCC framework: Population - patients with HNSCC; Concept - HPV prevalence, detection methods, associated factors, and survival outcomes; Context - studies conducted in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Lilacs PLUS, MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched, supplemented by handsearching reference lists. Results: A total of 74 studies published between 1998 and 2026 were included, most from Brazil (n=45) and Mexico (n=13). HPV prevalence varied widely across cancer types and countries: for OPSCC, prevalence ranged from 0% to 63.04%; for LSCC/HPSCC, 0% to 55.3%; and for OSCC, 0% to 74%. Among studies examining factors associated with HPV positivity (n=16), younger age, female sex, and higher education were consistently associated with HPV positivity, while tobacco and alcohol consumption showed contradictory associations (positive in some studies, inverse in others). Most studies reported better overall survival (OS) for HPVpositive patients, including improved 5year OS. Conclusion: HPV prevalence in HNSCC varies widely across Latin America and the Caribbean. Methodological heterogeneity limits comparisons and trend assessment.
