Resumo: Angioedema is a rare but potentially serious adverse effect, primarily associated with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, and can also occur with angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). It is characterized by non-pitting, usually asymmetrical edema, primarily affecting the lips, tongue, and oral mucosa, with a risk of airway compromise.
Two clinical cases of hypertensive patients are reported, without other comorbidities or a history of allergies, who manifested episodes of oral mucosal angioedema ; the first, a 63-year-old female patient using losartan, presented painless edema on the left side of the tongue, while the second, a 68-year-old male patient using valsartan, manifested edema on the right upper lip. Given the clinical suspicion, the decisive conduct in both cases was medical intervention with the immediate suspension of the medications, resulting in total remission of the angioedema in the affected regions and the restoration of the patients health.
