Título: ORAL MANIFESTATION OF HISTOPLASMOSIS IN A PATIENT WITH RECENTLY DIAGNOSED HIV INFECTION: A CASE REPORT

Resumo: A 44-year-old male patient, recently diagnosed with HIV infection, was admitted to a hospital unit for investigation of cervical nodulation with an evolution time of approximately two months, suggestive of lymph node tuberculosis. He also presented an ulcerated lesion on the right lower labial mucosa, with a granulomatous appearance, indurated, painful, and bleeding on palpation, associated with right submandibular lymphadenomegaly. An incisional biopsy of the labial lesion was performed. Histopathological examination revealed, in the connective tissue, numerous yeast-like structures positive for Periodic Acid-Schiff staining, consistent with Histoplasma capsulatum. The treatment instituted was based on high-dose liposomal amphotericin B and itraconazole (200 mg). For lymph node tuberculosis, the RHZE therapeutic regimen (rifampicin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol) was initiated. After one month, regression of the lip lesion and cervical nodulations was observed, and the patient remained under clinical follow-up.
