Título: SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA ON THE DORSUM OF THE TONGUE: A CASE REPORT

Resumo: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) on the dorsum of the tongue is rare and may mimic other lesions, particularly those of inflammatory or infectious origin. This report describes a case of SCC in a 76-year-old female patient, referred for evaluation of a lingual nodule that had been present for 4 months. The patient reported being a former smoker. Oral examination revealed a reddish, ulcerated, and painful nodule, measuring 1.0 cm in diameter, located on the left dorsum of the tongue, adjacent to the midline. The main diagnostic hypotheses were pyogenic granuloma and SCC. Under local anesthesia, an incisional biopsy was performed. Histopathological analysis revealed the presence of pleomorphic squamous cells, commonly arranged in blocks, invading the adjacent connective tissue. A diagnosis of SCC was established. The patient underwent surgical resection of the lesion. One year after treatment, no signs of recurrence were observed.
