Categoria do Trabalho: Pôster - Relato de Caso ou Série de Casos

Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: A 17-year-old female patient was referred to the stomatology service presenting with pseudomembranous candidiasis for 14 days. Intraoral examination revealed, in addition to white plaques, a painless, purplish, moriform nodule extending from the vestibular gingiva between teeth 21 and 23. Extraoral physical examination revealed a nodule in the intercostal region measuring approximately 2 cm. Periapical radiography did not reveal bone or dental alterations. The diagnostic hypothesis was Kaposis sarcoma. Rapid tests and serology for HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and syphilis were requested. The result was reactive only for HIV. An incisional biopsy was performed, the histopathological examination of which showed atypical endothelial proliferation, sometimes opening vascular spaces or nests. The diagnosis was Kaposis sarcoma associated with HIV infection. The patient was referred to an infectious disease specialist and, after 8 months of starting antiretroviral therapy, shows almost complete regression of both manifestations of Kaposis sarcoma.
