Resumo: This study evaluated patients' online health information search behavior, their level of trust in the information obtained, and its influence on their visits at a Brazilian Stomatology Center. Cross-sectional study with quantitative convenience sample involving 172 patients. A structured questionnaire was applied sociodemographic characteristics, reason for the previous search for online clinical information, its use, frequency, and reliability, access sources, usefulness, as well as discussions of information during the consultation. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee, and the data were reviewed using the SPSS® 27.0. Most of the participants were women (58.1%) over 50 years of age (41.9%). The most frequent complaints were nodules, plaques, and papules (32.6%). Online health information seeking was reported by 58.7% of participants, mainly through search engines (94%). Approximately 49.5% of the patients had previously investigated their injury but only 8% raised the matter during the health visit. Most patients (58%) considered the information useful and 26% reliable. The search online for health information is frequent, but is rarely discussed in the clinical dialogue and is constrained by a limited level of reliability. These findings enhance the need for professional intervention for critically guiding and ensuring the safe use of that information.
