Título: MUCOEPIDERMOID CARCINOMA: THE IMPACT OF EARLY DIAGNOSIS ON TREATMENT OUTCOME

Nome do Apresentador: Luisa Lousada SANTOS

Categoria do Trabalho: Pôster - Relato de Caso ou Série de Casos

Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: A 57-year-old female patient presented with a firm, asymptomatic nodular lesion on the left buccal mucosa, in the posterior region adjacent to the molars, with evolution of approximately two months. Overlying mucosa appeared intact, with no signs of ulceration, and exhibited a violaceous coloration. No clinically palpable cervical lymphadenopathy was observed. Preoperative exams included complete blood count and prothrombin time (PT) to perform an incisional biopsy. Histopathology suggested intermediate grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Further immunohistochemical study revealed Ki-67 (5-10% positivity), p63 (positive), Sox10 (negative) and c-erb-2 (HER2/neu) (positive), confirming the diagnosis as low grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma. The patient was referred to the regional oncology reference hospital, where complete surgical excision of the tumor with clear margins was performed, without the need for radiotherapy or chemotherapy, due to the early-stage diagnosis. She remains under regular follow-up.
