Título: ANALYSIS OF MYC, BCL2 AND BCL6 TRANSLOCATIONS IN ORAL PLASMABLASTIC LYMPHOMAS

Resumo: Aim: To investigate the occurrence of MYC, BCL2 and/or BCL6 translocations in plasmablastic lymphoma. Methods: Plasmablastic lymphomas were retrieved from pathology files. H&E-stained slides and immunohistochemical reactions were revised for diagnosis confirmation. EBV detection was done by in situ hybridization, while translocations involving MYC, BCL2 and/or BCL6 were investigated by fluorescence in situ hybridization. Clinical data were retrieved from the patients' medical files. Results: Thirty cases were obtained and 56.5% cases presented MYC translocation. Three cases demonstrated simultaneous MYC and BCL2 translocations and one case carried simultaneous MYC, BCL2 and BCL6 translocations. These four cases accounted for 17.3% of the sample, affected more males (3M:1F), had a mean age of 47.7 years-old, three cases affected the gingiva and one the palate as painful, ulcerated swellings. All patients were HIV positive and presented a diffuse proliferation of immunoblasts and plasmablasts. All four cases were negative for CD20 and positive for at least two plasma cell markers, with a mean proliferative index of 93.7% and three cases were EBV-positive. Two patients were alive and two died. Conclusion: A subset of plasmablastic lymphoma carries simultaneous MYC, BCL2 and/or BCL6 translocations, demonstrating an aggressive clinical behavior.
