Título: CLINICAL AND RADIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF ODONTOGENIC KERATOCYSTS DIAGNOSED IN A SINGLE ORAL PATHOLOGY SERVICE

Resumo: Objective. To analyze the clinical, and radiological characteristics of a series of odontogenic keratocysts (OKC) diagnosed in a single Oral Pathology service. Materials and Methods. All cases diagnosed as OKC between 2005 and 2024 were selected. Clinical, and radiological information were obtained from the laboratory records, tabulated, and descriptively and comparatively analyzed. Results. Final sample consisted of 372 records, with 208 females (55,9%) and 164 males (44,1%), with a mean age of 36,1 years. A total of 206 cases (60,9%) were located in the posterior mandible. The multilocular radiolucent image was more frequently in the posterior mandible (p=0,002), and local swelling was more frequently in lesions located in the posterior maxilla and anterior mandible (p=0,006). Enucleation was employed in 113 cases (68,5%, n=165). Patients affected by the nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS) were treated by enucleation more frequently (P=0,007) and were less frequently submitted to marsupialization (p=0,03). Conclusion. OKC showed a predilection for females, were preferentially located in the posterior mandible, and affected younger patients when associated to the NBCCS. Multilocular lesions were more frequently observed in the posterior mandible. Enucleation was the most commonly used treatment modality. Support: FAPERJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
