Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: A 12-year-old female patient was referred to the Clinic of Oral Medicine with a firm sessile nodule, purplish, in the anterior region of the mandible measuring 2 cm. Radiographically, a radiolucent, unilocular lesion was evidenced. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) revealed expansion of the vestibular and lingual cortical bone. Biopsy revealed Central Giant Cell Lesion (CGCL). Due to the extent of the lesion and the patients age, the chosen treatment was application of intralesional corticosteroid. After 9 sessions, there was intraoral regression, but an increase in the intraosseous lesion. Then, surgical curettage was performed. After 23 months, recurrence was evidenced in the CBCT scan. The patient was then referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for complementary treatment. This report highlights the difficult management of lesions with aggressive behavior and reinforces the importance of rigorous clinical and radiographic follow-up of patients with CGCL.
