Título: THE EARLY RECOGNITION OF SJÖGREN'S DISEASE THROUGH ORAL FINDINGS: DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGES IN TWO CASES

Resumo: Sjögren's disease is a chronic systemic inflammatory connective tissue disorder of autoimmune etiology, primarily affecting the salivary and lacrimal glands. This report describes the diagnostic challenges encountered in two cases. The signs and symptoms included xerostomia, xerophthalmia, burning sensation, pain, and recurrent enlargement of the major salivary glands. The diagnosis was established through the combination of clinical history, compatible clinical findings, and complementary examinations, according to the criteria established by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR). However, the lack of some information made the the diagnostic process more difficult. Minor salivary gland biopsy was highlighted as an important component in the diagnostic process. Thus, the importance of an interdisciplinary approach is emphasized, as well as the prominent role of the dentist in the evaluation of the early signs and symptoms of the disease.
