Título: ORAL SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA MIMICKING MRONJ IN PATIENTS RECEIVING BONE-MODIFYING AGENTS: A CASE SERIES

Resumo: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) may clinically and radiologically mimic medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), particularly in patients receiving bone-modifying agents. We report three cases of patients presenting with non-specific oral lesions initially suspected of being MRONJ due to their medical history. Clinical findings included mucosal swelling, non-healing extraction sites, and, in one case, bone exposure. Radiological imaging showed osteolytic changes, further supporting the initial suspicion. Due to the persistence of lesions and atypical features, all patients underwent incisional biopsy. Histopathological examination confirmed the OSCC diagnosis in all cases, consistent with previous evidence highlighting the overlap between these conditions. Patients were subsequently referred for oncologic management, including surgical resection and/or adjuvant therapies, and are currently under follow-up. These findings underscore the importance of maintaining a high index of suspicion and performing a timely biopsy in doubtful cases to avoid diagnostic delay and improve prognosis and patients' quality of life.
