Título: NON-HEALING LOWER LIP ULCER REVEALING SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA: THE IMPORTANCE OF CLINICAL SUSPICION IN DENTAL PRACTICE

Resumo: A 42-year-old male presented with a lower lip ulcer persisting for approximately two months, with no healing after the use of antibiotics and antivirals. Clinical examination revealed a 1 cm ulcerated lesion with irregular borders, a crusted surface, painless, and showing progressive growth. Based on these findings, the differential diagnosis included squamous cell carcinoma, syphilis, and major aphthous ulcer. An incisional biopsy was performed, and histopathological analysis confirmed squamous cell carcinoma. The patient had a history of chronic occupational sun exposure and underwent surgical resection. Histopathological examination of the surgical specimen revealed a well-differentiated invasive squamous cell carcinoma, with clear margins and no evidence of lymphovascular or perineural invasion. After approximately six months of follow-up, the patient showed good healing and no signs of recurrence. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and the critical role of dental professionals in evaluating persistent and potentially malignant oral lesions.
