Título: ULTRASONOGRAPHIC ASSESSMENT OF SALIVARY GLANDS AND LYMPH NODES IN HEMATOLYMPHOID NEOPLASMS AT DIFFERENT PHASES OF CT

Resumo: Hematolymphoid neoplasms comprise a group of malignancies primarily treated with chemotherapy (CT). Adverse effects of CT often involve the oral cavity and salivary glands leading to significant morbidity and compromising clinical outcomes. Ultrasonography might be valuable for the assessment of CT-induced salivary gland involvement. This observational, analytical, cross-sectional study involved ultrasonographic evaluation of the parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands, as well as regional lymph nodes, during different phases of chemotherapy treatment. Fifteen patients were included, equally distributed in the pre-CT, CT, and post-CT groups. The study was approved by institutional Research Ethics Committee (CAAE: 95328825.1.0000.5149). 12 male and 3 female were included with median age of 48 years (12-70). Although the glandular echogenicity remained predominantly preserved across the groups, heterogeneous echotexture was more frequent during CT, with partial persistence in the post-CT phase. Vascularization was increased in the pre-chemotherapy phase and further increased during CT, followed by a subsequent reduction. Lymph nodes predominantly exhibited preserved morphology, with vascular and structural changes more frequently observed during CT, without a consistent pattern suggestive of malignancy. These findings indicate predominantly reactive ultrasonographic changes, reflecting combined disease and chemotherapy effects, supporting the multidisciplinary care in oncologic patients.
