Resumo: Objective: Study the prevalence of infectious diseases, with emphasis on STIs with oral manifestations, in patients assisted at Department of Stomatology B (FO-UNC) (2018- 2025).
Materials and methods: Cross-sectional, observational and retrospective study of 303 clinical records with diagnosis of oral infectious disease. Demographic variables, infection type, clinical presentation and statistical associations (Pearson's χ², p<0.05) were analyzed.
Results: 303 patients, 186 women (62 %) and 114 men (38 %); mean age 45. 54 % (n=163) presented at least one STI. Most frequent infection was HPV/condyloma acuminatum (24.4 %; n=74), followed by herpes (15.5 %; n=47), syphilis (10.6 %; n=32), HIV (3 %; n=9) and cytomegalovirus (2 %; n=6). By etiology: viral 46.5 % (n=141), superficial mycosis 26.1 % (n=79), nonspecific bacterial 14.9 % and specific bacterial 12.9 %. Most common lesions were ulcerated and vegetating (both 24.4 %). Significant association was found between STI and lesion type (p<0.01) and between STI and sex (p=0.02), with higher proportion of HPV in males and herpes in females.
Conclusions:The study shows high prevalence of oral STIs and predominance of viral infections. These findings underscore the need to train dentists in early recognition of these pathologies and in promoting preventive measures.
