Título: UNUSUAL LIP ABSCESS IN AN ADOLESCENT: CASE REPORT

Resumo: A 17-year-old male presented with progressive painful swelling of the lower lip after manipulating a papule in the perilabial region. He was previously diagnosed in another service with an insect bite hypersensitivity reaction and underwent anti-inflammatory drugs and oral antibiotics. However, the edema progressed, and injectable ceftriaxone was prescribed without success. On clinical examination a sweling with central necrotic area was observed in the lower lip. Necrotic tissue debridement and incisional biopsy were performed. Histopathological analysis showed mixed inflammatory infiltrate composed mainly of neutrophils, eosinophils, macrophages, and cellular debris, leading to diagnosis of abscess. A new necrotic tissue removal and hydrogel gauze application were performed in addition of continuation with injectable antibiotic therapy. Complete healing was observed 18 days after the onset of the condition. This case illustrates that careful clinical evaluation, detailed anamnesis, and histopathological analysis are essential to establish the correct diagnosis and treatment.
