Resumo: Multiple primary cancers of the head and neck are uncommon. This report describes the case of a 56‑year‑old black male patient with chronic alcohol and tobacco use who presented with two distinct lesions: one in the right oropharynx and another on the left ventral surface of the tongue. The lesions displayed nodular features with ulcerated centers, were firm on palpation, and erythematous in color; under a clinical diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma, incisional biopsies were performed. Histopathological examination confirmed squamous cell carcinoma in both sites. Theories on the development of this phenomenon include field cancerization of the entire aerodigestive tract after prolonged exposure to carcinogens such as tobacco and alcohol. In addition, to qualify as synchronous tumors, the lesions must be distinct and separated by at least 2 cm of grossly normal tissue. The patient was referred to the oncology referral center but died before initiating oncologic treatment.
