Resumo: Ameloblastoma is a benign intraosseous epithelial neoplasm of odontogenic origin, characterized by locally aggressive behavior and accounting for approximately 1% of all odontogenic tumors. It is thought to arise from epithelial remnants associated with odontogenesis, including the dental lamina, enamel organ, rests of Malassez, periodontal ligament, or the epithelial lining of odontogenic cysts. Its pathogenesis remains unclear; however, factors such as inflammation, chronic trauma, and possible viral associations (e.g., HPV) have been suggested. The unicystic variant predominantly affects young adults, with a predilection for the posterior mandible, typically presenting as a well-defined unilocular radiolucent lesion. Clinically, it is typically asymptomatic, although it may cause bone expansion and deformity. Radiographically, it often resembles a radicular or residual cyst. Definitive diagnosis relies on histopathological examination, and treatment ranges from conservative approaches to surgical.
