Resumo: Male patient, 72 years old, with a 4-year history of oral lichen planus, was referred to the stomatology service due to a tongue lesion. During anamnesis, he reported a chronic habit of chewing clove (Syzygium aromaticum). Intraoral examination revealed punctate erosion on the hard palate, an ulcerated whitish plaque on the tongue apex, and white plaques on the buccal mucosa and gingiva. The diagnostic hypothesis was contact stomatitis associated with clove use. The habit was discontinued, and treatment with a bacitracin and neomycin ointment was prescribed for 5 days, followed by triamcinolone acetonide for 15 days. After 28 days, there was regression of the lesions, but with atrophy of the lingual papillae. A new protocol was initiated with miconazole gel and dexamethasone elixir for 15 days. At the end, repapillation of the tongue and significant clinical improvement were observed. The patient remains under follow-up with no signs of recurrence.
