Título: Shifting Epidemiological Landscape of Intraoral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Two-Decade Retrospective Study in São Paulo

Nome do Apresentador: Arthur NASCIMENTO e Silva

Categoria do Trabalho: Pôster - Investigação Original (IO)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objectives: The aim of this study is to describe epidemiological trends of intraoral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) evaluating age/gender distribution, risk factor exposure, and anatomical shifts across two decades (2005-2015 vs. 2016-2025).

Study Design: This study analyzed epidemiological trends in a non-selected sample from the Surgical Pathology Service of the School of Dentistry of the University of São Paulo (2005-2025). Cases of the lip and oropharynx were excluded. Data on age, sex, race, primary site and habits were collected and compared between periods through statistical analysis.

Results: Preliminary analysis of 1345 cases showed a significant increase in female patients between periods (p = 0.0073). An increase was also observed in black young males affected by OSCC in comparison to young males from other races (p = 0.0349). As with the general group of patients, the tongue was the most affected site in young patients (p = 0.0225).

Conclusions: These findings highlight the need for updated public health policies and early diagnosis strategies that look beyond traditional risk groups to ensure timely intervention in emerging patient profiles.
