Resumo: Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile and dental care demand of patients hospitalized in a burn unit.
Study Design: A retrospective, cross-sectional, observational study analyzed 74 medical records of 25 patients in a burn unit between 2016 and 2022. The variables included sex, age, annual frequency of dental visits, distribution by age group relative to the number of procedures, correlation between the primary admission diagnosis (ICD) and the frequency of interventions performed.
Results: The average age was 28 years (0-70), and no gender predominance [13F (52%), 12M (48%)]. Annual distribution showed that 2018 concentrated the highest percentage of visits, with 22 (28.7%), followed by 2022 with 21 (28.3%). Regarding morbidity, the most frequent primary diagnosis (ICD) associated with the need for dental assistance was third-degree burns, without specification of body part, with 8 visits. Temporal analysis revealed an increase in the demand for specialized dental care throughout the seven-year period, with a sharp decline in values during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Conclusion: The results delineate a profile of critical patients with high demand for dental care, primarily characterized by adults between 20 and 39 years old. The epidemiological indicators are essential for planning care protocols and allocating resources in burn units.
