Título: SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA OF THE SOFT PALATE MIMICKING TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDER: IMPLICATIONS FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS

Resumo: This report describes the case of a 55-year-old male patient, a smoker and alcohol consumer, who sought dental care in the temporomandibular disorder specialty due to pain on the left lateral border of the tongue, ipsilateral masseter and temporal regions, associated with odynophagia and sleep disturbance. Clinical examination revealed hyperemia of the tonsillar pillars and an erytroplakic lesion of approximately 6 mm on the left soft palate. Based on these findings, the patient was referred to an otorhinolaryngologist for biopsy. Histopathological analysis confirmed moderately differentiated and invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Oropharyngeal surgery was performed with reconstruction using a forearm epithelial graft. During follow-up, the patient remains free of recurrence, presenting hair growth in the grafted area, which is managed periodically. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach, as well as the relevance of painful symptomatology as a possible initial manifestation of malignant oropharyngeal lesions
