Resumo:
Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare benign mesenchymal neoplasm of fibroblastic origin, characterized by slow growth and the ability to arise in virtually any anatomical site. In the head and neck region, it represents approximately 6-18% of cases, typically affecting middle-aged adults without a clear gender predilection.
This report describes a 59-year-old man presenting with a painless, progressively enlarging nodule in the buccal region.
Intraoral examination with bidigital palpation revealed a well-circumscribed, mobile, firm nodule measuring approximately 2 cm, covered by normal-appearing mucosa. Ultrasonography demonstrated a solid, oval hypoechoic lesion with low vascularity on color Doppler, closely associated with the buccinator muscle.
Complete surgical excision was performed. Initial histopathological findings were inconclusive, however, immunohistochemical analysis showed positivity for CD34 and STAT6, confirming the diagnosis of SFT.
The patient remains under follow-up, with no evidence of recurrence to date.
