Título: Cancer screening through randomized controlled trials: a scoping review

Nome do Apresentador: Camila Barcellos CALDERIPE

Categoria do Trabalho: Pôster - Investigação Original (IO)

Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: Objective: This scoping review aimed to identify the types of cancer and the corresponding screening methods evaluated in randomized controlled trials (RCTs), with particular interest in situating oral cancer screening within the RCT-based body of evidence. Study design: This review followed the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Electronic searches were conducted across six major databases and the grey literature. Data were synthesized as means and frequencies. Results: A total of 91 RCTs evaluated 97 cancer screenings across nine distinct cancer types over a period of 57 years. Colorectal cancer was the most frequently investigated (22.7%), followed by breast cancer (21.6%), and lung cancer (18.6%), with fecal occult blood testing (40.0%), mammography (50.0%), and low-dose computed tomography (43.3%) as the most commonly used screening methods, respectively. In contrast, oral cancer was the subject of only one RCT, in which visual inspection of the oral cavity was the sole screening method evaluated. Conclusions: These findings reflect global efforts to evaluate cancer screening strategies through RCTs and highlight the limited RCT-based evidence available for oral cancer screening.
