Resumo: A 35-year-old female patient with leukoderma presented to the dental clinic complaining of white patches in her oral cavity.She reported having consulted an otolaryngologist, who diagnosed oral candidiasis and prescribed nystatin and, subsequently, fluconazole due to recurrence of the lesions.Despite interventions, the lesions persisted on the dorsum of the tongue, extending towards the palate.Upon clinical examination, the lesions were considered characteristic of immunosuppression associated with HIV infection.The patient was then referred for evaluation by an infectious disease specialist, who confirmed the HIV diagnosis. It was also found that she was not on antiretroviral therapy and had abandoned treatment. Clinically, she presented primary oral manifestations indicative of progression of HIV infection to AIDS: oral candidiasis, oral hairy leukoplakia and Kaposis sarcoma.This case highlights the importance of the relationship between early diagnosis and monitoring of the lesion, which is now completely controlled with the correct use of antiretroviral therapy.
