Título: FULL-SPECTRUM CANNABIDIOL OIL REDUCES PAIN IN BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME: A RANDOMIZED PLACEBO-CONTROLLED TRIAL

Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of full spectrum cannabidiol oil for pain control and quality of life improvement in patients with burning mouth syndrome (BMS). Study Design: Randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Twenty-six
patients with BMS were allocated to the experimental group (n=13) or placebo group (n=13). Pain intensity and impact were measured using visual analogue scales (VAS) throughout follow-up, and quality of life was assessed using the OHIP-14 at baseline
and study completion. Results: The experimental group showed a significant and progressive reduction in pain intensity over time (Friedman: χ²₅=29.6; p<0.001), reaching a final median of 0.0, whereas the placebo group maintained consistently high scores (>6.0). Reductions in pain impact were also significant (χ²₅=42.2; p<0.001), with a marked and sustained improvement throughout follow-up. Between-group differences emerged from the third assessment and became progressively more pronounced over time. A significant improvement in oral health-related quality of life was observed in the cannabidiol group compared with placebo (p=0.001; large effect size). No adverse events were reported. Conclusion: Full spectrum cannabidiol produced clinically meaningful and sustained analgesia in BMS, with substantial improvements in patient-reported outcomes and an excellent safety profile, supporting its potential as a novel therapeutic strategy.
