Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: A patient presented with generalised desquamative gingivitis; bilateral mixed red-white reticular-like lesions in the buccal mucosa and a white verrucous, plaque in the right buccal mucosa. Over a period of 12 months, the patient was closely monitored with multiple biopsies performed for the verrucous plaque. Histopathology findings progressed over time. The initial biopsy revealed features consistent with lichenoid interface mucositis. The lesional histology varied over time, with moderate dysplasia within 11 months and a well-differentiated keratinising Squamous Cell Carcinoma within 12 months. This presented as a diagnostic challenge as the patient had clinical presentations that were suspicious and evolved over time. This case emphasises the value of close follow-up and repeated biopsy to identify malignant transformation early and manage accordingly.
