Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the undergraduate training in oral biopsy across Latin American dental schools. Study Design: This study was conducted with 326 final-year dental students from universities in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Venezuela. A 35-item questionnaire assessed students teaching, training, and confidence in oral biopsy. Descriptive analyses were performed, and inter-country comparisons and associations between prior biopsy performance and perception variables were analyzed using Fisher's exact and Wilcoxon tests (α=0.05). Results: Formal theoretical training in oral biopsy was reported by 89.9% of students, with significant differences between countries (p<0.001). Overall, 72.4% observed or assisted in biopsies, and 53.4% performed at least one procedure during their undergraduate studies (p<0.001 between countries). Among those with clinical experience, most reported having performed only one biopsy. Confidence in performing biopsies of lesions suspected of malignancy also remained low (median=3; p<0.001). Prior practical experience was significantly associated with higher levels of confidence and more favorable attitudes toward performing biopsies (p<0.05). Conclusion: Oral biopsy training in the evaluated countries remains predominantly theoretical and unevenly translated into clinical competence. Expanding supervised practical exposure may be essential to strengthen students' confidence and diagnostic autonomy. Acknowledgments: CAPES; FAPEMIG; CNPq.
