Título: DEVELOPMENT AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MOUTHWASH CONTAINING CORIANDER ESSENTIAL OIL (CORIANDRUM SATIVUM)

Nome do Apresentador: Itamar Francisco TEIXEIRA

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: Objective: The aim of this study was to formulate mouthwashes containing essential oil and aqueous extract of Coriandrum sativum (CS) and to evaluate their physicochemical properties. Study Design: Mouthwash solutions (MS) were developed incorporating CS essential oil at concentrations of 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3%. Additionally, MS formulations containing aqueous CS extract were prepared at concentrations of 5.0%, 10.0%, and 15.0%. A control group (CG) consisted of an MS formulation without CS. The physicochemical characterization of all formulations included analyses of relative density, viscosity, and pH values. The results were compared with those of commercially available mouthwashes: PerioGard®(PGD, Colgate) and Listerine®0174 Cool Mint Zero Alcohol (LTN, Johnson & Johnson). Results: The density of CS-based solutions ranged from 1.057 g/cm³ to 1.064 g/cm³, closely matching the densities of the CG (1.070 g/cm³), LTN (1.029 g/cm³), and PGD (1.044 g/cm³) formulations. The inclusion of CS essential oil did not significantly affect viscosity, which remained consistent at 2.5 cP to 2.6 cP. Furthermore, all formulations containing CS showed pH values above 5.5. Conclusion: The experimental MS formulations were considered non-erosive and exhibited physicochemical properties comparable to those of the commercial mouthwashes analyzed.
