Título: INITIAL PULMONARY DIAGNOSIS AND LATE DETECTION OF ORAL LYMPHOMA: THE IMPACT OF A TIMELY CLINICAL APPROACH

Nome do Apresentador: Júlia França da SILVA

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de caso clínico (PCC)

Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: A 72-year-old man with a history of chronic alcoholism, past smoking, advanced COPD, and pulmonary fibrosis was admitted for acute respiratory failure, with preliminary diagnosis of lung metastases. He only reported the presence of mouth lesions two months ago after being admitted to the hospital. The dental evaluation found lesions on the hard palate and floor of the mouth, and a sample of these lesions showed B-cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma with a high proliferation index (Ki-67≥60%).The case emphasizes the value of early stomatological evaluation because the clinical course suggests that the oral tumor may have occurred before the lung envolvement. The late detection of the oral lesion may have allowed the lymphoma to progress, emphasizing the importance of specialist attention to the oral cavity, particularly in patients with systemic comorbidities. Early detection of oral symptoms can be critical for the prognosis, altering the therapeutic approach and minimizing complications such as metastasis.
